Luli, Chardonnay, Santa Lucia Highlands,2008
Not all unoaked Chardonnays are created equally… Luli is kind of a superstar in the catagory. Luli is a project under the tutelage of of the Lucia and Pisoni Labels… In other words rare and hard to find. At a very attractive retail price of $22ish (depending on source), this unoaked Chard has all the bells and whistles including medium bodied mouth feel, lean and racey acidity, and complex fruit layers. The lees stirring has helped add a bready and silky thick texture while creating a barrier between the acidity and acid… Now the 2008 that I have just tasted isn’t the best vintage I have tasted of this wine, but as a label it is still heads and shoulders abouve most examples in this catagory. *** Drink now, excellent with Crab Cakes or light seafood with rich sauces.
